Edie Backman

Edie is a soon-to-be alumni of the STCA/GWU MFA Classical Acting program, a DC-based actor, and singer. Edie is a strong believer in the collaborative process to create powerful art that builds empathy through storytelling, and especially through live theater. Recent credits include the Earl of Salisbury in King John, Vincentia in Taming of the Shrew, and Dr. Avery in A Not So Quiet Nocturne. She brings a rich and varied perspective to her work, having lived overseas in 7 countries while serving 23 years in the U.S. Foreign Services. She is educating folks about Shakespeare as a Docent at the Folger Shakespeare Library and learning how to interpret Shakespeare in a modern and critical way, relevant for all audiences. She also holds a BA in Political Science and an MA in History with a focus on Early Modern Europe and Colonial America.
