Edie Backman

Edie is a DC-based actor, director, writer, singer, and educator.  She is a strong believer in the collaborative process to create powerful art that builds empathy through storytelling, and especially through live theater.  Recent credits include the Earl of Salisbury in King John, Vincentia in Taming of the Shrew, and Dr. Avery in A Not So Quiet Nocturne.  Edie brings a rich and varied perspective to her work, having lived overseas in seven countries while serving 23 years in the U.S. Foreign Service.  She teaches acting, and is educating folks about Shakespeare as a Docent at the Folger Shakespeare Library.  She has an MFA in Classical Acting from The Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy at George Washington University, and also holds a BA in Political Science and an MA in History with a focus on Early Modern Europe and early America.
